Dear Future Attorney...
This space was built for you. Let's do this journey together, shall we?
Dear Future Attorney,
The first time we dreamed of becoming a lawyer, there wasn’t a map or someone at our ear with all the answers or networks we needed to secure our spots in this profession. We had passion, curiosity, and a drive to make a difference, and that was enough. You may have looked at the first question on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), took a pre-law course in undergrad, or even did a legal internship that challenged you and made you wonder: Is this really for me? Am I built for this? We are here to affirm you that you are built for it, and nothing can get in the way of your goals except your desire to be comfortable. Nothing about this will be comfortable. However, that uncertainty doesn’t disqualify you; it’s a natural and important part of the journey. We’ve all been there, and some of us still are.
Law can either look intimidating or intriguing from the outside. Maybe you’ve only seen it on TV shows full of dramatic courtroom speeches. Maybe you were inspired by shows like “Scandal,” “Suits,” or “How To Get Away With Murder” and figured it couldn’t be that bad but definitely filled with drama (somehow, that seems worse). Maybe people have told you it’s only for the “perfect” student or the loudest debater in class. Let us stop you right here: you don’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to have it all figured out. What you do need is courage, resilience, and the willingness to grow. Sounds cliché but Johnnie Cochran proved that conviction and preparation can take you further than perfection ever could.
That’s why we created this space—for you. At this point, you’re just 0L, and you’re on your way. This is a corner of the internet where future attorneys can find guidance, community, encouragement, and truth. It’s a safe space to ask questions, learn from mistakes (ours included), and begin to see yourself as someone who belongs in this profession. Because you do.
Brothers In Law, Inc. was created to inspire, guide, and empower the next generation of attorneys. We are more than an organization—we are a unit committed to opening doors that were once slammed shut, sharing knowledge that was once guarded, and creating pathways that didn’t exist for us. We didn’t just add a seat to the table; we pretty much started building more tables. Our mission is simple but powerful: to mentor, educate, and uplift the youth, the next generation of change-makers and leaders, who aspire to establish careers in law, especially those who may feel overlooked and/or underrepresented. If you don’t take away anything else from us, please know that your presence is necessary for shaping a more just and equitable world.
Along the way, we’ll share the lessons we’ve learned, the struggles we faced, and the victories that reminded us why this path matters. Some posts will feel like a pep talk, some will feel like a roadmap, and others will be stories that give you a glimpse into what pre-law endeavors, law school, the legal profession are really like. The goal is simple: to give you what we wish we had when we started out.
But let us be clear—this won’t always be easy reading. Just like a big sibling would, we’ll celebrate your wins, but we’ll also tell you the hard truths: the late nights, the pressure, the doubts that creep in. Why? Because if you know what’s ahead, you can prepare for it, and you can push through it. And we believe with everything in our hearts that you can.
You may be the first in your family to even think about law. You may be coming from a background where no one looks like you in the courtroom. Or you may already be on the track, but secretly wondering if you’re good enough. Wherever you are, let Brothers In Law, Inc., meet you there.
So here’s our invitation: walk with us. Read, reflect, and ask questions. Use this space as your starting point, your compass, and your reminder that the dream you have is possible. Because you, Future Attorney, belong here.
